London Silver Dolphins Repeat as Provincial Champions

Swimming in the 2007 Ontario Masters Swimming Championships, the London Silver Dolphins defended their 2006 title as provincial team champions. The team of 48 swimmers, ranging in age from 20 to 68, competed in the Sudbury meet over the weekend of March 23, 2006.

The team was led by a number of veterans including Bryan Finlay, 64, competing in his 28th master’s championship. Finlay won gold in the 50 meter and 100 meter Breaststroke, the 200 meter Backstroke, 200 meter Butterfly and the 400 meter Individual Medley. Former Olympian Rob Stoddart, 57, struck gold in the 100 and 200 meter Breaststroke while Malcolm MacKinney, 68, won the 50 meter Butterfly.

On the women’s side of the pool, Cathy MacDonald, 41, won the 50 meter Backstroke, 200 meter Backstroke and the 200 meter Freestyle. Anneke Salmon, 51, won the 800 and 1500 meter Freestyle. And Linda Quigley, 66, competing in her 24 th championship, had first place finishes in the 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter Freestyle.

Finlay, Quigley, Salmon, Stoddart and MacKinney also played roles in 8 of the 19 Dolphin relays to win gold.

The championships attracted 350 swimmers and 38 teams from across Canada and the U.S.
